Privacy Policy

Literashare only collects what it needs to run a neighborhood book exchange — helping you find nearby shelves, message about a request, and keep the community safe. This page explains what we collect, how location visibility works, and how long we keep it.

01

Information we collect

  • Your email and name, from Google sign-in.
  • An optional display name and library bio, if you set one.
  • An optional phone number, if you add one for SMS notifications.
  • Your date of birth, to confirm you’re 18 or older.
  • The library location you set — used to show your shelf to nearby neighbors.
  • The book inventory you list.
  • Messages you send through the app.
  • Your notification preferences (email, SMS, and push).
02

How we use it

We use this information to:

  • Run your account and sign-in.
  • Power nearby search, so neighbors can discover your shelf.
  • Enable messaging between members about a book request.
  • Send notifications you’ve opted into — email, SMS, and push are all opt-in, and you can manage them any time at your profile.
  • Review reported content as part of moderation.
  • Keep the community safe — preventing fraud, abuse, and policy violations.
03

How location visibility works

Showing your library’s approximate location to nearby neighbors is the core function of Literashare — it’s how people discover shelves within a radius of up to 3 miles. Neighbors see distance and general area, not your exact address.

We never sell your location data to anyone.

04

Messages and moderation

Messages are private, 1:1 threads tied to a specific book request — not public, and not visible to other members. If a message is reported, our moderators can review it as part of investigating that report. Moderation actions (warnings, suspensions, bans, content removal) are logged.

05

How long we keep data

  • Active-account data — kept while your account is active, to operate the product (your listings, messages, and preferences).
  • Reported-content evidence — if a message or listing is reported, we retain a snapshot of it for up to 1 year (365 days) to support moderation review and appeals.
  • Legal holds — if data is subject to a legal preservation request, it’s retained until the hold is released, regardless of the schedules above.
  • Underage accounts — if we discover an account belongs to someone under 18, we suspend it and delete the associated personal data.
06

Who we share data with

We use a small set of service providers to run Literashare. They process data on our behalf, under their own security and privacy terms:

  • Supabase — database and file storage.
  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • Google — sign-in, Maps for location features, and Google Books for catalog data.
  • Resend — transactional email.
  • Twilio — SMS notifications.
  • Stripe — optional donations. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers.
07

We don’t sell your data

We don’t sell your personal information to data brokers or other third parties, and we don’t use your data for ad targeting.

08

Your rights

You can:

  • Access what we hold about you — email team@literashare.com.
  • Correct inaccurate information — much of this you can edit yourself at your profile.
  • Delete your account and data — we don’t have a self-serve option yet, so email team@literashare.com to request it. This is subject to the legal-hold and reported-content retention rules described above.
09

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Literashare grows. If we do, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page.
